Trailer of the bid
Three trailers from the region were produced for the Hildesheim application to become Capital of Culture. The filming was done by the Bidding Office Hildesheim 2025 with the extensive support from city and region.
The region is part of Hildesheim's application to become European Capital of Culture 2025. Why the province? What does it have to offer Europe? How do city and country complement or differ in terms of (their) culture? At first glance, not much is happening. Five letterboxes on a field. A boy waiting at a bus stop. An older lady sweeping the street. And at second glance?
At second glance, the postman, who is here delivering the mail to the actual still active letterboxes, which are standing seemingly abandoned on the country road near Sottrum, is a native Sardinian. Salvatore Carroni does not only revive the German-Italian cultural exchange on a very personal level, but is also the singer of the metal band Drowning Deep and is also on the road playing solo music as MaestRock Salvatore. So at second glance the province unites European-international culture.
episode #2 Who Cares
At second glance, Pauline, who saves Max from the approaching thunderstorm in this video, is an enthusiastic motorcross driver. She shares this passion with her boyfriend and together they drive the provinces of the country on weekends. Because that’s what the rural, the deserted, the (almost) natural areas are famous and notorious for: Where there is plenty of space to build exciting tracks, motorcross fans from all over Europe meet. This is where Pauline and Max met like-minded people from Holland and got tips for hip spots in Italy. And their big dream is: “After the apprenticeship we will have saved enough money that we can pack a camper, load the machines and go on a tour through Europe or even America", Pauline tells us and intuitively reaches for her helmet. So at second glance, the province generates a passion for a sport that is more about lifestyle and culture than you might think—and which connects people in Europe and the whole world.
episode #3 Who Cares
Water a plant, raise the seed, enjoy the flowers. Carmen Schrocke knows what it means to care and to worry. At second glance, this is also the story of her family: in 2013 Carmen’s only daughter will emigrate to Spain. They visit each other at least three times a year. Then comes Corona. At the beginning of 2020, mother and daughter see each other for the last time. Since then, maternal care has reached a new dimension. Because Tanja, as a freelance dancer, suddenly has difficulties getting jobs in Spain too. So at second glance, there is European-international concern and care in the province.
